The Cary Briefcase - Founders Edition

Ten years ago, we set out to build a better briefcase, and the Cary became the most awarded design in its class. To mark the decade, we're releasing the first all-leather version of the Cary, cut entirely from Horween's signature Essex leather. It starts supple and grows richer with every year, exactly as it should from a tannery that's made leather by hand in Chicago since 1905. The proven everyday carry we've spent years refining, crafted in true heirloom leather. We've waited a long time for this one, and we couldn't be prouder to share it with you now.

Horween is one of only a handful of American tanneries that still take a hide from raw to finished in-house, in small batches. You probably know their leather without knowing the name: it's in every NFL football and every NBA basketball. They're not the biggest, fastest, or cheapest, so they've only ever tried to be the best.

A Time-Honored Tanning Process

Essex is vegetable-tanned, the patient way to make leather. Rather than the fast chemical bath that most leather goes through, it's steeped for weeks in natural tannins from tree bark and other plant matter. It took Horween three years to perfect this process, and its high oil content sets it apart, working deep into the fibers to keep Essex supple from the first day.

Uniquely Yours Over Time

Because Essex is full-grain and lightly finished, every hide carries its own character: natural grain, small marks, and gentle shifts in tone. No two are exactly alike, and that's the point. With use it only improves, darkening and taking on a soft sheen until the patina is entirely your own. A briefcase made this way isn't built to be replaced; it's built to be carried for years, and to look better for every one of them.

Laptop Sleeve Compatibility:   This briefcase contains two laptop sleeves, one fixed and one removable. Both are suspended and padded to protect devices. The fixed sleeve holds up to 16" devices; the removable sleeve holds up to 15" devices.

We ship worldwide with a network of reliable carriers, offering both Economy and Express services at checkout. Wherein duties are required, they are paid by the customer at importation.

30 DAY EASY RETURNS

We gladly accept returns of unused, new items within 30 days of shipment and provide a prepaid label to make the process easy.

For international returns, we ask that customers make their own shipping arrangements with a trusted carrier of their choice.

RESTOCKING FEE

With the aim of delivering more value to more customers, we do not blend the cost of returns into our prices and instead apply a US$20 surcharge to cover return shipping and restocking.

LEATHER CARE & REPAIR

Horween's Essex leather is renowned for how beautifully it ages, developing a rich patina over the years. With proper care, it will become a lifelong companion that only improves with time. 

• Store your briefcase in a cool, dry place, out of direct heat and sunlight.
• If caught in a light rain, allow your briefcase to dry naturally, away from heat.
• Marks, variations, and patina are natural characteristics of full grain leather.
• Condition it occasionally with a leather cream to keep it supple and protected.
